The new law (L87) passed 26. January 2016, contains tightening rules and regulations regarding immigration. Some of the tighter laws applies to newly arrived refugees, for example taking their jewelry, while other laws applies to foreign students, who cant get permanent residence.

There are also new rules in L87 from 26 jan which applies to all applicants.

People who want permanent residence, or family reunion with their partners, will be hit by a new fee charge. The size of the charge is yet to be revealed by immigration services.

The new fee charge has to be paid in most cases from the 1. march 2016 which means all applications submitted after this date will be charged. In addition we can inform that even complaints and re-opening of cases, will be charged.

Permanent residence permit

That means, if you plan on seeking extension of a residence permit, you can save the fee charge by applying before 1. march 2016. Remember that you can apply for extension of your visa 3 months before it expire.

Family reunion

That means if you want family reunion, or planning on it, you can do it before 1. march 2016 and save the fee charge to immigration, which probably gonna be around 5000-10.000 kr.

If you dont have all the necessary documents needed in a family reunion and still awaiting documents from the authorities, you can still apply on monday (29 feb 2016) and send the rest of the documents during the week when they arrive. For example the ”kommunal udtalelse” which takes a week to get can be sent in to the immigration afterwards.

From tuesday 1. march most applications/complaints will be covered by the new fee law which applies for everyone. The fee requirement will be for all the complaints/applications submitted on 1. march 2016 or thereafter.

It is our advice for everyone who is planning on sending anything to the immigration that they do it before 1. march 2016.

Excemptions

In certain cases, the fee can be waived if certain conditions apply. For example if the here living person in a family reunion case is a refugee.
