Permanent visa or temporary visa?

Once you have obtained temporary visa in Denmark, the normal length of such a visa is 2-3 years. You have to request an extension, of your visa, before it expires.

It’s very important that the application of extension is done BEFORE the visa expires, otherwise you can risk staying illegal in Denmark. Staying illegal in Denmark means that if you are caught, you will be banned from Denmark and you cant come back for at least 2 years.

You can apply maximum 6 months before you visa expires. Every time you seek an extension application, the new rules applied in 2016, states that the cost of such an application is 2.000, – which is somewhat high, considered that it used to be free before.

Consequently, countless individuals tired of paying 2.000, – every 2 or 3 years are now applying for permanent residence, which cost around 3.700, – however that is just a one-time cost. Once you acquire the Danish permanent residence card, you don’t have to seek any extension, or have any form for contact with Danish immigration.

If you apply for permanent residence card in Denmark, you don’t have to worry about extension, as it is automatically applied for you. That means, if you apply for Danish permanent residence card, and get a rejection, you are automatically given the extension as usual, or you were supposed to. So you don’t have to seek extension, and permanent residence differently.

Do you want permanent residence?

In order, to acquire the permanent residence, you have to fulfill certain requirements put forward by the Danish immigration, also called Udlændingestyrelsen.

If you think you meet the requirements, you can apply permanent residence online, and its very important that when you apply permanent residence that you attach:

  1. Work contract
  2. Pay slips (last 3)
  3. Tax papers for the last 3 years.
  4. Medborgerskabsprøve

The new rules, which apply from 2016 means, that is have gotten more difficult to obtain the Danish permanent residence card.

It is a good idea to have you tax papers, pay slips, and so on, already downloaded on your computer, as they will require to upload them to the website.

Remember to apply for a sagsbestillingsID number before you apply, since your case will be rejected, without the sagsbestillingsID number on the application. The number is obtained on immigration website under gebyr, where you pay to apply. It is also very important that the number on the sagsbestillingsID, matches the number on the receipts of payment made online, which is required to be sent along with the permanent residence application.
